Two Michigan Courses Named Finalists for USA TODAY’s 10 Best Public Golf Courses

Michigan continues to shine as a top golf destination, with two courses making the list of finalists for USA TODAY’s 10 Best Public Golf Courses in America. This annual ranking highlights courses that offer exceptional design, playability, and scenery, as chosen by an expert panel and voted on by the public.


Black Lake Golf Club – Onaway, MI

Designed by Rees Jones, Black Lake Golf Club is known for its stunning layout among cranberry bogs and towering pines. The par-72 course offers a balance of beauty and challenge, making it a favorite among Michigan golfers. In addition to the main course, Black Lake features a nine-hole par-3 course, ideal for families or those looking to sharpen their short game.



The Cardinal Course at Saint John’s Resort – Plymouth, MI

One of Michigan’s newest public courses, The Cardinal at Saint John’s Resort has quickly gained attention for its strategic bunkering, undulating greens, and classic design by Raymond Hearn. Spanning 7,002 yards, this par-72 course is set among century-old trees and provides a memorable experience for golfers of all skill levels.


Voting for the 10 Best Public Golf Courses is open until March 24 at noon ET, with winners set to be announced on April 2. Golfers can cast their votes once per day, helping to put Michigan’s top courses on the national stage.
